The claim

The 1,000 km, six-lane Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway is at a very early stage.

Figures

First phase roughly 120 km. Funding: a $516m external loan via Deutsche Bank AG (9-year tenor, 3-year grace, SOFR plus 5.3%) plus ₦265bn in federal funding. Minister Umahi's own reported figure as at the May 2026 report: 0.15% completion against 0.049% of time elapsed.

The counter-argument

Criticisms include no published contractor details, no public completion timeline, questions about the timing relative to the 2027 election, and debt-load concerns given national debt of ₦159tn. Do not present this as a delivery.
